The village itself offers a variety of quaint tiendas, restaurants and very friendly people. It is also safe.

About La Manzanilla, Mexico
La Manzanilla is a tranquil little fishing village
located on the South East end of the Bahia de Tenacatita four hours
south of Puerto Vallarta and one hour north of Manzanillo, the closest
international airport to the village. Neighboring towns are Cihuatlan,
Melaque, Bara de Navidad, Tenacatita, and Boca de Iguana. Further
a field one has Guadalajara, Colima and so many more wonderful places
to visit as side tours.
The extraordinary beach circles towards Boca de Iguana to the north.
The beach is flat, has gentle surf, fine sand and is 5 KM long. Mountainous
jungles border the beach, which is lined with coconut palms and tropical
trees.
The Bay has the best fishing including huachinango [red snapper],
tuna, dorado, jack, and sailfish. Ocean and beach animals include
porpoises, whales, frigates, pelicans, cormorants and more. Some
other activities are horseback riding, snorkeling, hiking, mountain
biking, yoga, lagoon tours, immersion adventures, cooking classes,
Fiesta del Toros, and craft lessons at the International Arts Center.
Some of Mexico’s
best golf courses, such as Tamarindo, are as close as 10 minutes
away.
The village now boasts its own taxi service and there is an hourly
bus service from La Manzanilla to Melaque seven days a week. There
are little mom and pop grocery/liquor stores; an Internet café,
long distance phone service and several locally and internationally
run restaurants.
Costa Alegre (Happy Coast) is beautiful and needs to be visited to
fully appreciate it.
